Premiership Season Points
Come What May
Liverpool are widely tipped to improve on last season's 58 point finish, and are once again popular with punters. Benitez now has a year's Premiership experience, and bought well in the summer. In particular, the addition of a reliable goalkeeper should mean several more points for the Reds. Sporting Index are predicting a total points haul of 67.5 to 69, and the European Champions are expected to finally close the gap on the Premiership's top three.
Last seasons over-achievers, Everton and Bolton, should find the going a lot tougher. With the likes of Spurs, Boro and Newcastle expected to improve this time around, Sporting Index are predicting that both sides will finish with 49 to 50.5 points. Spurs are expected to make the greatest progress out of all the UEFA Cup hopefuls. Having bought very well this summer, Jol now possesses a large squad with a good blend of youth and experience. Sporting Index estimate that the North Londoners will finish in sixth, having amassed 58 to 59.5 points.
Boro are usually a very popular choice with punters. However, after a relatively quiet summer and the loss of Zenden, Sporting Index has not seen as much interest in McClaren's men this time around. Their current spread of 52.5 to 54 points is very similar to last season's total, which can be explained by the lack of incoming personnel. Nevertheless, a settled team could make Boro a much tougher proposition this time around.
Since the opening matches of the season, Sporting Index have seen a number of punters bet 'low' on Chelsea's predicted total of 86 to 88 points. They finished on 95 points last year, but you should remember that only Man Utd have managed to retain the Premiership title. At the other end, West Ham are priced up as most likely to beat the drop out of the promoted teams, with 36.5 to 38 points. However, Wigan's display against the Blues has won them a few fans. Punters are seemingly attracted by the sides' physical presence and think Jewell's Premiership experience can keep them up.
How Does the Season Points Market Work?
Let's take current champions Chelsea as an example. If you think they will finish on less than 86 points this season, simply bet 'low'. Alternatively, if you think the Blues will finish on more than 88 points, bet 'high'.

THE GLAZIER VIEW
****************************
bet365’s guarantee of 107% Premiership books means you might get an even better price nearer to the match but the 11/10 about West Brom to beat Portsmouth should be snapped up quickly if you have any sense. The Baggies recently landed Nathan ‘Duke’ Ellington from Wigan and he, together with Robert Earnshaw could be too hot to handle for the creaking Pompey defence.
A BLUE DAY FOR ARSENAL?
***********************
Chelsea were severely lucky to land the spoils at the JJB on Sunday but they should get motoring against their London rivals. We’ll see how long the even money lasts about a team with a point to prove after a shabby display against Wigan. The Gunners found a breakthrough difficult against 10-man Newcastle and there is nothing to be had against a stubborn 11-man Chelsea on their patch.
ROVERS RETURN TO EWOOD FOR A WIN
********************************
Blackburn are not a team to be taken lightly and I’d be smashing into the 10/11 about them putting Fulham to the sword if I were you. Beware the wounded animal after a 3-1 defeat at Upton Park, partly due to inept defending which will improve thanks to the return of Ryan Nelsen from injury. Fulham had a few chances against Birmingham but are lacking firepower – the same cannot be said of Rovers with Bellamy and Pedersen who are deadly with the boot.
Picks
4pts West Brom @ 10/11
3 pts Chelsea @ EVS
2pts Blackburn @ 10/11
1pt Treble @ 7/1
FREDDIE TO GIVE VISITORS MORE NIGHTMARES
****************************************
I must be dreaming. Why else would I be looking at the bet365 site and seeing England priced at 5/2 to win The Ashes? This is the same England team that came within a wicket of taking a 2-1 lead at Old Trafford? The same team that battered the Aussies at Edgbaston with world-class bowling from Flintoff and Harmison?
So, I’m going to check whether the entire England team have come down with a bout of smallpox and, if they’re still fit and healthy, I’m piling it at 5/2 which might pay for that holiday in Scotland. The Australians are priced at Evens but I wouldn’t be touching that with a really long bargepole that was dangling out of my fingers.
Pick
England to win The Ashes @ 5/2
EUSTACE NOT USELESS
*******************
I’ve backed Hardy Eustace to win the 2006 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. Yes, I know that I’m wearing the ‘OBVIOUS’ t-shirt with this bet but I’m also on to a winner, especially at odds of 5/1. It’s like backing Chelsea to win the Premiership at 5/1 as I just don’t think any other horse is going to get past it going up the Cheltenham hill. On the day, what price will it be? 2/1? 6/4? It would be nice to say you’ve already backed it at 5’s wouldn’t it?
Pick
Hardy Eustace @ 5/1
AND FINALLY…
************
Before you head off to bet365 and ‘follow me in’ on all of the above (!), I recommend you also back Chris Greenacre to score the first goal for Tranmere Rovers at Brentford this Saturday. He’s 13/2 to open the scoring at Griffin Park as he did against Oldham last week. The hotshot signed from Stoke is currently sitting on three goals in two games and the 7/4 about him to score at any point in the match is ‘value central’ as well.
Pick
Chris Greenacre to score 1st @ 13/2 and Anytime @ 7/4
Be Lucky,

You’ll be offered a revised betting price prior to each round of betting, so you genuinely have the choice of backing yourself or your opponents.
There are 5 betting opportunities to get to grips with:
Betting Blind – where a price is generated before any cards are dealt. Hole Cards – each player is dealt two cards and a new price is generated. The Flop – where three cards are dealt on the table and a new price is generated. The Turn – where a fourth card is dealt on the table and a new price is generated. The River – where a final fifth card is dealt on the table and a new price is generated.
