Flashy Wings On Recovey Mission
She faces nine rivals at headquarters that include the progressive Nidhaal from Ed Dunlop’s stable and the improving Wake up Maggie whose trainer Chris Wall saddled Expensive to topple Flashy Wings.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “The Cheveley Park looks a proper trial and will tell us whether Flashy Wings is still going the right way after losing her unbeaten record at Newbury. A paddock inspection with fillies at this time of the year is also imperative”.

British raider Carte Diamond has made the long and arduous journey from Norton in North Yorkshire to Australia for a double pronged attack on the Aussie’s top races. Brian Ellison’s four-year-old took the 36 hour journey which involved 25 hours flying time and only lost 10 kilos during the journey.
He is scheduled to run in the one and a half mile Caulfield Cup on Saturday October 15 and will be partnered by top overseas rider Weichong Marwing. Carte Diamond will then attempt to keep the British flag flying down under when taking his chance in the two mile Melbourne Cup on Tuesday November 1.
His owner Ashley Carr commented “Carte Diamond ate seven bowls of feed and drank plenty of water during the long flight from England. He only lost 10 kilos and the vets were perfectly happy with his condition on arrival”.
Carr continued “Brian (Ellison) has been impressed with the way our horse has matured this year and the five-month break between the Triumph Hurdle back in March and his reappearance when second to Sergeant Cecil in the Ebor may have been the making of him. He is still improving and has only raced six times on the flat winner three times, runner-up twice and third once. I am expecting big things of Carte Diamond in the coming weeks”.
Carte Diamond is currently on offer at 25-1 with VC Bet and their PR Manager Neal Wilkins stated “Carte Diamond has exactly the right profile for the Melbourne Cup. He is only four, has low mileage and the right attitude. He could be a force to be reckoned with on November 1 particularly in light of how well he took the travelling”.

Punters Pile on Chelsea
VC Bet have had to shorten last year’s beaten semi-finalists from 6-5 to 11-10 following an avalanche of bets including a single wager of £30,000 to £25,000.
VC Bet’s Rob Walker reported “It is clearly too many on to one and everybody wants to be on Chelsea. We have pushed Liverpool out from 11-5 to 12-5 while the draw remains on offer at 15/8. Punters obviously believe that this is the perfect opportunity for Chelsea to seek their revenge over the Champions League title holders after those two incredibly tight semi-finals last season”.

Champions League
It is the second set of matches in the Group stage of the Champions League this week and both Manchester United and Arsenal will be looking to put disappointing displays at the week-end behind them.
Manchester United who were shocked by Blackburn in the 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford entertain Benfica and are rated at 4-11 with VC Bet to get back to winning ways with the draw priced at 11-4 and Benfica available at 15-2.
Arsenal travel to Ajax rocked with injury problems and still without an away win in the Premiership after their goalless draw with West Ham on Saturday. They are 7-5 with VC Bet who make the home side an 8-5 chance and the draw on offer at 11-5.
Wednesday evening gives Chelsea the chance to seek revenge for their semi-final dismissal by Liverpool in the Champions League last season. The Premiership title holders who are seven out of seven in the league are rated the 6-5 favourites by VC Bet who have Liverpool at 11-5 and the draw at 15-8.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “Manchester United have a perfect opportunity to bounce back from the Blackburn defeat against Benfica but Arsenal, playing without key players and confidence will do well to get anything out of their game in Holland”.
Wilkins continued “Liverpool actually managed to double their season’s goal total in the 2-2 draw with Birmingham on Saturday and it will be interesting to see who comes out top of the battle of the coaches between Benitez and Mourinho. It should be an enthralling tie”.

Shawanda in Demand
News that Azamour will miss the Prix de L’Arc de Tromphe next week-end has seen further support for the Aga Khan’s main representative Shawanda with VC Bet.
“The Irish Oaks winner has attracted good support this week and is now a solid 3-1 second favourite behind Hurricane Run” commented VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins, who added “If both horses run up to their top form next Sunday in Paris we are in for one hell of a race. Throw Motivator into the mix with a return to his Derby winning form and it will certainly justify its position as the richest race in Europe”.
Connections of leading Arc hope Shawanda believe the talented three-year-old has yet to hit top gear this season. Alain de Royer-Dupre's filly racked up her fifth consecutive win in only six outings with an easy success in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp this month. Although Shawanda's official winning distance was three-quarters of a length, jockey Christophe Soumillon was cruising throughout the mile and a half and eased his partner right down at the line.
The Aga Khan's racing manager Georges Rimaud said: “We were very impressed with her in the Prix Vermeille but I think she is still improving. "The trainer did not think she was 100 per cent fit last time because she was carrying a little bit of weight. Hopefully we can get her fine-tuned for the Arc."
The daughter of Sinndar has been delighting Royer-Dupre on the Chantilly gallops and is due to complete her preparations on Tuesday when she will have her final Arc workout

Nannina in demand
John Gosden’s filly Nannina who was a brave winner of the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket last week-end has since been heavily in demand for next year’s classic over the same course and distance with VC Bet.
Originally offered at 20-1 with the Gibraltar-based firm after her short head victory over the well fancied Alexandrova she has since been the medium of an ante-post gamble and is now trading at 12-1.
Nannina also confirmed by the manner of her victory her liking for a step up in trip to one mile that also vindicated the comments of Victor Chandler, chairman of VC Bet, in his regular Saturday column in the Daily Star’s StarBets supplement. “I have always been a fan of John Gosden’s Nannina and this daughter of Medicean will take all the beating in the Fillies’ Mile”.

Classic Bubble Burst
Sir Michael Stoute’s City of Troy put his reputation on the line in the Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket on Sunday and was a very heavily backed favourite from 7-4 down to 11-8 to preserve his unbeaten record.
In a slow run race he never got in a blow at the leaders and finished fourth behind 8-1 chance Leo who completed a wonderful two-year-old double for trainer John Gosden who had won the previous day’s Fillies’ Mile with Nannina.
Leo was subsequently introduced into the 2,000 Guineas market at 33-1 and the favourite George Washington was cliiped from 4-1 to 3-1 with VC Bet who removed City of Troy from their betting for next year’s first classic.

Champions League Preview
If you're tempted to have a bet on any of this week's matches, it's worth remembering that bethilo are offering £25 cash to all new clients** (see details below.) If you're new to spread betting their jargon-free explanations will give you the ideal introduction. Here are our thoughts on the big games:
Ajax v Arsenal
Arsenal have a good record at the Amsterdam Arena. A goalless draw in the 02/03 Champions League group stage was followed up by a 1-0 in the Amsterdam Tournament this summer. Although they will be without Van Persie (suspended) and Henry (injured), Reyes, Bergkamp, Pires and Ljungberg should still provide an effective counter attacking threat. Ajax are a club in transition and their squad is full of similarly average players. Although the Dutch club are the visitor's toughest test in Group B, the Gunners should have enough quality to sneak a win.
Man Utd v Benfica
United played quite well at Villareal, and an away draw against Group D's toughest opponents was a good result. Defensively, United have started the season very well, and should be well equipped to keep Nuno Gomes and Simao quiet. However, the loss of Keane is a huge blow to their already suspect midfield. They're creating too few chances, and will certainly miss the invention of Rooney (suspended). Even so, Benfica shouldn't pose too may problems. Their new manager, Ronald Koeman, is struggling to find a winning formula and a comprehensive defeat at Old Trafford should only add to his woes.
Liverpool v Chelsea
Liverpool's victory at Betis has made them favourites to join Chelsea in the next stage of this competition. However, it's difficult to see them getting more than a point against the visitors. Liverpool have struggled to score in the Premiership, and Chelsea have a particularly miserly defence. This tie will probably be played at a frantic ‘derby' pace that won't suit the home side. Chelsea looked rather average against Anderlecht, and are tending to grind out results. Essien's impressive start for the Blues has compensated for Lampard's loss of form, but they are yet to click in the final third of the field. With both teams struggling to score, a draw may suit both sides.
Inter v Rangers
Although Inter are a slightly overrated side, they will be facing a weak Rangers team. The visitors were rather fortunate to beat Porto, and their domestic performances have been very disappointing. Inter are sweating on the fitness of Adriano, but even without the Brazilian and Veron (suspended) they should have far too much quality. This game is to be played behind closed doors, which could save Rangers fans from experiencing a comprehensive defeat first hand.

Money For Villa
VC Bet have issued prices on the first side to score against Chelsea in the Premiership this season. Aston Villa who are their next opponents at Stamford Bridge on Saturday are priced up at 11-4 and Liverpool who entertain the champions at Anfield on October 2 are on offer at 6-4.
Joe Fagan of VC Bet commented “Aston Villa will find it very difficult to breach the title holders at Stamford Bridge at the week-end and no doubt would give anything for one of the seven second-half goals they netted against Wycombe on Tuesday night in the Carling Cup! We have seen support for them at 100-30 and they are now on offer at 11-4. Liverpool will have to show far more attacking enterprise than they did in the recent 0-0 stale-mate with Manchester United when they play hosts to Chelsea on October 2”.

CHELSEA TO LEAVE IT LATE AGAIN AT 11/8
Last week we flagged up the fact that Chelsea have been winning their games late on, after grinding down their opposition in the second half. This resulted in a nice 3/1 pay-out on the Draw / Chelsea double result in their match against Charlton, and similar betting tactics can pay off again this week in their match against Aston Villa.
Villa (12/1) are unlikely to upset Chelsea, but they’ve done enough in their previous two away matches this season to suggest that they can keep the score line respectable. And, since Chelsea have yet to concede in the Premiership (and Villa have failed to score in their last three visits to the Bridge), we can also be confident about backing them to win to nil at 11/8 (another winning bet last week at 6/4). The game is not live on TV but, as we bet all Premiership matches ‘In-Play’, we’re also giving you the option to get stuck into the Blues before the start of the second half, when they’re likely to be a better price than the current 2/9.
WHO WILL SCORE FIRST AGAINST CHELSEA?
With six games, eighteen points, and a big fat zero in the goals against column, the Premiership title race already looks over (currently 2/7 Chelsea). And, with the Chelsea clean sheet run likely to go on for at least another week, we’re betting on which side will score first against them in the Premiership this season. Saturday’s potential ‘lambs to the slaughter’, Aston Villa, are 6/4 to breach the watertight defence first, with a goal-shy Liverpool (October 2nd) next best at 7/4. With matches against Bolton (13/2), Everton (9/1), and Blackburn (28/1) also on the horizon, it’s difficult to find a winner in this ‘market’. In fact, we might have to wait until Man United (16/1) on November 6th to get paid out!
START YOUR ACCA AT THE BRIDGE
Chelsea may be on the skinny side this weekend, but they can still get our Premiership accas off to a great start. Betting purists will say that you shouldn’t be placing multiple bets, but this is one way of getting rich cheaply, and there’s nothing wrong with a speculative wager on a Saturday afternoon – plus you’re assured of getting some extra value with our Premiership Accumulator Bonus! This weekend, Chelsea are home bankers, but the remaining selections are all fancied to win on their travels.
Charlton (6/4) have been phenomenal on the road this season (three out of three), and they look set for another nice away day against the Baggies. Wigan have adjusted to life in the top flight rather well, and are a touch of value at 3/1 to beat a struggling Everton, while Liverpool (11/10) can get the better of Birmingham in Saturdays’ live lunchtime encounter (ko 12.45).
A £25 acca on all four selections this weekend pays out £673.75 - that includes a bet365 bonus of 5% (up to 60% on offer every weekend in the Premiership).
Weekend Premiership Picks:
Draw / Chelsea @ 7/2; Chelsea to win to nil @ 11/8
Charlton to beat West Brom @ 6/4
Wigan to beat Everton @ 3/1
Liverpool to beat Birmingham @ 11/10
4-fold on Chelsea (2/9), Charlton (6/4), Wigan (3/1) and Liverpool

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON – DUBAWI 7/4 FOR QEII STAKES GLORY
There’s no doubt that Dubawi has the class to win the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (4.20), and he’s our 7/4 market leader to emulate his sire Dubai Millennium with victory in Britain’s most prestigious mile race. Original fears that the ground was going to be fast have been allayed by recent rain, but connections would still like to see even more before race day. There was plenty of give underfoot when the Godolphin horse won the Irish Guineas and last time out in France, but he was all at sea on a firm surface in the 2000 Guineas back in May.
That said, it could be worth taking a chance on Starcraft at 9/4. The Aussie import was top-class Down Under, and finally showed the Europeans what he was capable of when making all to rout his rivals in the Group 1 Prix du Moulin at Longchamp at the beginning of September. Similar tactics are likely to be employed on Saturday, and he’s fancied to pull clear of his rivals once he meets the rising ground at Newmarket.

LET’S GO NATIVE – CORAL’S THE ONE TO BE ON
There’s a cracking jumps card for the time of year at Market Rasen on Saturday, which (providing the ground is suitable) could feature the reappearance of 2004 Stayers Hurdle winner Iris’s Gift in the novice chase (2.45), The Jonjo O’Neil eight-year-old is expected to make up into a top-class staying chaser this season, and has already been well-backed for the Gold Cup (now 20/1). A word of warning, however, he’s almost certainly going to need the race on his first run since March, in which case the Nicky Richards-trained Native Coral looks the one to be on. Trainer Peter Bowen has a great record at the track, and his Football Crazy can follow up last year’s win in the opening handicap hurdle (2.10).

Channel 4 cameras will be showing four races from the meeting at Market Rasen (as well as three from Haydock), which is great news if you can find the winner of any of the televised races here at bet365. The United States are as short as 4/7 to win this week’s Presidents Cup on home soil, but there are a number of question marks hanging over Team USA. World No.1, Tiger Woods (3/1 to top-score for the States), has not played competitive golf since finishing 40th in the Deutsche Bank Championship, while Phil Mickelson, who finished down the field in the 84 Lumber Classic, is not renowned for his team golf. To add to captain Jack Nicklaus’ concerns, star player David Toms was hospitalized with heart problems during the first round last week. On the rankings, the US are the better side but, at the odds, the bet’s going on the Internationals at 11/8.
President’s Cup Pick- Internationals @ 11/8
HOME FROM HOME - BACK J J FOR TEXAS OPEN AT 66/1
Several of the players at the front of the betting for this week’s Texas Open look opposable due to being out of form – 20/1 favourite Chad Campbell has posted only one top-ten since April – so it’s time to get stuck into some genuine each way shots at bigger prices. And, as Texans (and Texas
residents) do particularly well in this event (last year’s winner Bart Bryant was the 16th Texan to win his home event), we’ll pin our hopes this week on a trio of natives
J J Henry reached a landmark birthday (30) in April, which is often an incentive for a player to up his game, and he’s since put in some decent finishes (4th in the Reno-Tahoe). He’s still looking to break his Tour duck but, with two top-5’s in four years on this track, this could be the week he does it. He rates a cracking each way bet at 66/1, along with Texas-born-and-bred, Hunter Mahan (80/1), who also looks to have the measure of the course (Tied 17th 2003, 5th 2004).
Finally, Harrison Frazar looks too good to miss at a juicy 80/1. He’s yet to fire in this event, but produced one of his better performances of the season last time out in the Lumber Classic, finishing with a 64 to grab 17th place. As he’s currently 135th in the money list, he could do with a few dollars this week to ensure his automatic playing rights for next season (only the top-125 at the end of the season qualify). That should be the incentive he needs to at least get into our five places this week. Of course, once the event tees off, we’ll have live in-play betting right up to the final putt on Sunday night.
Texas Open Three Off The Tee- J J Henry @ 66/1; Hunter Mahan @ 80/1; Harrison Frazar @ 80/1 (Each-way ¼ odds 1.2.3.4.5.)

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Preview
Tempted to have a punt on the runners?
If so, check out the spread betting markets at Sporting Index. They’re offering all new clients a refund of up to £50 if your first bet is a loser**, and £100 cash** to get started with (details below). Here are our thoughts ahead of the big race:
Rakt Up
Last year’s winner Rakti has solid claims to defend the crown he won at Ascot last September. He looked excellent when he rode to victory in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in May, and should be good enough to repeat that.
A course winner in the 2003 Champion Stakes, the drying ground and a rest since Royal Ascot are positive factors behind this ‘machine’s’ chances.
The drying ground could be bad news for Rakti’s main rival, and current favourite, Dubawi. Arguably best on good ground, Godolphin’s charge snatched the unbeaten record of French super filly Divine Proportions on his last start.
To his credit, he has also defeated Oratoria this season. His form suggests he’s the one to beat. However, the way he hangs under pressure, and his inability to handle the Newmarket ‘dip’ in the Guineas, suggest he might be one to oppose on Saturday.
Australian superstar Starcraft was successful in his last start at Longchamp. He made all that day and probably stole the race, something which is unlikely this weekend. Trainer Luca Cumani has previously enjoyed success in this race with another import, Falbrav. However, Starcraft is probably not in that league and would need an extra couple of furlongs at this level.
Chic is looking good for a place. After successfully defending her Celebration Mile title at Goodwood in August, she went to Ireland for the Matron Stakes. She was given an ‘interesting’ ride by Christophe Soumillon, which brought a couple of raised eyebrows from trainer Sir Michael Stoute during a post race interview. Improving with age, her style of running will be suited by the likely fast pace, and Newmarket’s stiff finish may be enough to help her reel ‘em in during the dying strides.

Premiership Golden Boot Index
How does the Index work?
The Premiership Golden Boot Index is one of the most popular football spread betting markets. At the beginning of the season, Sporting Index chooses 16 of the Premiership’s top strikers, and then makes a prediction on how each striker will fare over the course of the season.
Each striker’s position on the Golden Boot Index is determined by a points system. The number of points awarded to a player is based on where Sporting Index think each striker will finish the season, in terms of goals, in relation to the other 15 players chosen.
Points are awarded as follows:
1st place = 60pts, 2nd = 40pts, 3rd = 30pts, 4th = 25pts, 5th = 20pts, 6th = 15pts, 7th = 10pts, 8th = 5pts, other = 0pts
Example
Take Arsenal’s Jose Antonio Reyes as an example.
Sporting Index is currently predicting 8 to 11 points for the Spaniard. You therefore have a relatively straightforward choice to make:
a) Will he finish the season in higher than 7th place (and be awarded 15pts or more)?
or
b) Will Reyes finish the season in lower than 7th place (and be awarded 5pts or less)?
Let’s say you think that Reyes is set to bang in the goals this season, and will finish higher than 7th on the Golden Boot Index. You would therefore buy (bet ‘high’) at 11 points for the stake of your choice e.g. £5 per point.
If Reyes goes on to have a free-scoring season, and finishes 4th in the Golden Boot Index with a total of 25 points, you would win 14 times your stake:
(25 – 11) x your stake = 14 x £5 = £70 profit
However, you could also end up losing more than your original stake. Let’s say you bet ‘high’ on Reyes at 11 points, but his season is plagued by injuries and he ends up finishing outside the top 8 positions on the Golden Boot Index. Reyes would be awarded 0 pts and you would therefore lose 11 times your stake:

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes
Queen Elizabeth II Stakes
Newmarket this week-end features the Festival meeting transferred from Ascot and those two words “Ascot Festival” still send shivers down the spine of VC Bet’s chairman Victor Chandler “ It was nine years ago when that “Demon” Dettori rode all seven winners going through a fiercely competitive card to land a 25,095-1 seven-timer. I have always been an admirer of Frankie but on that particular day he was bookie enemy number one!"
Commented Chandler “I am not expecting a repeat of history this Saturday – there are only six races - but obviously Frankie has a great chance of landing the featured QE II Stakes on the hot favourite Dubawi. This one went into winter quarters as favourite for the colt’s classics but was an early season disappointment. However he bounced back with a convincing win in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and stepped up on that performance when landing the Jacques le Marois at Deauville last month. He is the one they all have to beat”.

O'Brien 2,000 Domination
Aidan O’Brien’s stable continues to dominate the betting for next year’s 2,000 Guineas and his National Stakes winner George Washington consolidated his position at the head of the market for next year’s classic with VC Bet.
He remains their 4-1 favourite after overcoming early problems in running and that position seems justified according to PR Manager Neal Wilkins who commented “George Washington appeared to stumble after coming out of the stalls and Kieren Fallon gave him plenty of time to recover. He did just that despite hanging to the left and clearly has immense talent and has set a standard for the others to beat”.
O’Brien who also scored in the Listed race with Art Museum, who made it two out of two and is quoted at 25-1 for the 2,000 Guineas, is responsible for five of the first six in the ante-post betting.

Expensive Setback for Flashy
Flashy Wing’s unbeaten record came to an end when she was caught in the last strides of the Watership Down Stud Sales Race at Newbury on Saturday by the Chris Wall trained Expensive. However she still retains her place at the head of the market for next year’s 1,000 Guineas with VC Bet and is unchanged at 7-1 despite the reversal at the Berkshire course.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins reasoned “Flashy Wings raced up the middle of the track and had nothing left to race with after the two-furlong marker. The stands’ side appeared to be favoured and if she had anything to race with I am sure she would still be unbeaten. It must also be remembered that she was conceding 4lbs to the winner Expensive”.
Trainer Mick Channon had no regrets running his filly in the sales race rather than the more conventional route of the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket later in the autumn. “I originally thought it was the right place to come and I still think it was the right place. We got beat and we have got to get on with it. It’s about the winner, not about us. We live to fight another day”. Channon was putting a brave face on it having also suffered another recent setback when losing his other 1,000 Guineas contender Silca’s Sister to Godolphin.

Aston Villa who are their next opponents at Stamford Bridge next Saturday are priced up at 100-30 and Liverpool who entertain the champions at Anfield on October 2 are on offer at 6-4.
Joe Fagan of VC Bet commented “Aston Villa will find it very difficult to breach the title holders at Stamford Bridge at the week-end and Liverpool will have to show far more attacking intentions than they did in the recent 0-0 stale-mate with Manchester United when they play hosts to Chelsea on October 2”.

TV Sport - Irish St. Leger Preview
Wise Words
This Saturday the Irish St Leger takes place at The Curragh, and unlike the English equivalent is an open age race. All eyes will be on Vinnie Roe as he attempts to win the race for a remarkable 5th successive year. However, at the age of seven it's possible that his best days are behind, particularly when you consider that he's only just recovered from injury.
The two obvious threats to Vinnie Roe would appear to be Yeats and Shalapour.
Shalapour did not run as a two year old, but has made rapid progress at three. He produced his best performance two runs ago in the Irish Derby, where he chased home Arc favourite Hurricane Run, and subsequent English St Leger winner Scorpion. That sort of performance would give him an outstanding chance, but he was slightly disappointing last time out at Leopardstown, despite finishing in front of Vinnie Roe.
Yeats is also in with a real chance at The Curragh. He won the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom earlier in the year before disappointing in France. He has since been given a break before the autumn campaign, and despite being a four year old, is still open to plenty of improvement.

TV Sport - Premiership
Here are our thoughts on all the big games, to help you get started.
Villa v Spurs
Villa were dreadful at West Ham on Monday but are unlikely to be such a pushover for a second game running. Although it's been an unspectacular start for O'Leary's men, they are unbeaten at home so far. Much has been made of the scoring potential of the Baros/Phillips partnership, but in reality they will do well to score more than 20 goals between them this season. Sorensen has been very shaky in goal so far, but fortunately for Villa, Spurs are finding it difficult to score. With Mido suspended, Spurs attacking options are somewhat limited. Rasiak may struggle to cut it in the Premiership, and Spurs have an unbalanced look about them so far. bethilo are predicting 2.3 to 2.5 Total Goals for this game, and with plenty of defensive midfielders on display this could easily be a low scoring draw.
Liverpool v Man Utd
United have a decent record at Anfield in recent seasons, winning by a single goal on their last three visits. bethilo are predicting another tight game, with the visitors priced up to edge it by 0.0 to 0.2 goals. However, Gerrard returns for Liverpool and his partnership with Hamman may be too strong for a Keane-less United midfield. So far Smith hasn't looked great as a holding midfielder, his tackling and distribution aren't up to the job. For the Reds, Crouch could be the key man. He was very effective against Betis, and Liverpool will need him to hold the ball up well again if they are to avoid being pinned back by United's awesome attacking players. This game could once again be settled by a single goal, and the European Champions are in with a real chance.
Blackburn v Newcastle
The Magpies will be with out the injured Emre, Luque, Solano and Dyer, whilst Parker is suspended. The likely midfield quartet of N'Zogbia, Bowyer, Faye and Clark lack the width and creativity to supply Owen and Shearer with chances. So, expect another toothless display from the visitors. Things are looking a bit better for Blackburn, with Dickov and possibly Bellamy fit again. Either attacking option should be an improvement on Jansen or Kuqi. Hughes also has a full selection of midfield spoilers to choose from, so one could reasonably expect a scrappy low scoring affair. bethilo are predicting 2.3 to 2.5 Total Goals for this game.

Sun Sep 18 - 20.00 BST (SS2)
This week’s US Tour event is played at the monster Mystic Rock course, which measures in at around 7,500 yards (live In-Play betting throughout). That suggests we should be looking for a big hitter, and I’ve no hesitation in playing up my each-way winnings from Charles Howell to find the frame again this week at 40/1. Last time out in Boston, the lanky American finished fourth (tipped up at 50/1), following on from a 5th place in the International and a respectable 15th in the USPGA. His first look at Mystic Rock resulted in a 25th finish, and he should be able to improve on that this week.
Jesper Parnevik also found the frame last time out (tipped at 80/1) and, as he was 5th on this track a couple of years ago, he too can make the frame at a stand-out 66/1. The final pick goes to Frank Lickliter at a massive each-way price of 125/1. Ok, so you have to go back a way to find his best form, but his last three starts here read 2nd, 10th and 9th so there must be a chance he’ll turn it on again this week. Our favourite is Vijay Singh at 5/1 (11/2 enhanced win only market), but his recent final round performances have been weak by his standards, while Mickelson (9/1) may well be just lumbering up for next week’s Presidents Cup by playing here.
84 Lumber Classic Three Off The Tee: Charles Howell @ 40/1; Jesper Parnevik @ 66/1; Frank Lickliter @ 125/1 (Each-way ¼ odds 1.2.3.4.5.)

MARCO’S VALUE AT 4/1 TO LIFT IRISH PRIZE
Irish Greyhound Derby
Sa Sep 17 - 9.45 pm, live on (SS3)
What an epic final we have in store for the Irish Greyhound Derby! Not only do we have the winners of the English (Westmead Hawk) and Scottish Derbys (Droops Marco) in the field for the first time ever, but also last year’s Irish derby runner-up Droopys Maldini. And the betting suggests that it’s going to be close, but Maldini is favoured on the back of some awesome runs in the competition, including a best of the competition 29.47 seconds in his semi when beating Westmead Hawk into second.
However, that’s reflected in his current price of Evens, so the value could lie elsewhere. On the their semi final-running there’s no reason why the Hawk (9/4) can beat the favourite now, but there must still be a chance that he can reproduce his brilliant Wimbledon form on the track. As he’s already been recommended ante post we’re not going to desert him now, but if you’re still to have a bet, the value could lie with Droopys Marco at 4/1. Marco comes into the final as the only unbeaten qualifier and was unlucky not to reach the English final after finding all sorts of trouble in his semi. As an Irish dog he’s almost certainly going to be shorter on the night.
Irish Greyhound Derby Pick: Droopys Marco @ 4/1 (already advised: Westmead Hawk @ 5/2)
2/1 Offer - back the winner of the big race (or any of the other 6 live sky races on Saturday night) at 2/1 or bigger, and you can look forward to a free bet on the next live Sky dog race! See site for full details

PARTNERS CAN BE MUSIC AT 20/1…
Ayr Gold Cup
Sa Sep 17 - 3.40 pm, live on Channel 4
The Ayr Gold Cup (6f) looks to be a bit of a puzzle to solve at this stage with the final field not known until after the ballot on Thursday. The current going is good-to-firm with little rain forecast, which could scupper the chances of the well-backed current 9/1 co-favourites Continent, Intrepid Jack and Out After Dark. You’ve also got the draw to factor in, so the best bet could be to a) wait for the outcome of the Silver Cup, run a day earlier on Friday (the winner of both races has been drawn in the same third of the course in eight of the last ten years), and then b) make a bee line for bet365 straight away for the best price.
Providing they get a good draw, my two against the field are Partners in Jazz and Philharmonic, both currently cracking 20/1 shots. Partners in Jazz finished third in the Totesport International (7f) in June, and the runner-up, Goodricke, has since come out and won the Group 1 Sprint Cup. As all his best form has been over 6f, he must have a great shout, while Philarmonic comes into this on his head second to stablemate Fonthill Road (12/1) in May. That form reads well now (he’s a stone better off), and he too will appreciate the return to 6f.
Ayr Gold Cup Picks: Partners in Jazz & Philarmonic (currently both 20/1)
Channel 4 Offer - back the winner of the big race (or any of the other live Channel 4 races on Saturday) at 4/1 or bigger, and you can look forward to a free bet on the next live Channel 4 race! See site for full details

PATRIOTS 5/1 FOR RECORD TITLE CHASE
The new American football season got underway last weekend, and current title holders New England were one of nine favourites to win and cover the spread (handicap). The Patriots are going for their fourth Super Bowl in five years, and their third in a row, a feat that’s never been achieved. They now share favouritism with the Indianapolis Colts at 5/1, who beat the Baltimore Ravens on the road (away from home).
Each year there seems to be one team that improves dramatically to go on to reach the play-offs. Last year it was San Diego, and last weekend was notable in that four of the eight teams that propped up their divisions last year made a winning start. In particular, Miami and Tampa Bay gained confidence-boosting wins over Denver and Minnesota respectively, and they could both be worth following again this weekend. The Dolphins are currently 6-point underdogs (+6) to beat the New York Jets, which means that they have to win by more than 6 points to cover the spread, while Tampa Bay are 2-5 point favourites (-2.5) at home to the Buffalo Bills.
Of course, betting the spread is not the only way of having an interest on the game. We’ve also got match betting (money line) and game totals (over / under the total points scored in the game), but the real excitement is provided by our in-play service which is available straight after kick off (two live Sky games this Sunday).
One of the most popular bets on the NFL is the parlay (accumulator), whereby you combine two or more teams to win. Each week, we offer a bonus on this form of betting of up to 50% (winning 12, 13 and 14 team parlays), which means you’re getting more value for money. This weeks’ suggested parlay is on the following spreads:
Philadelphia Eagles (-13.5); Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5); Miami Dolphins (+6.0); San Diego Chargers (+3.0); New York Giants (-3.0). All teams are currently priced at 10/11, and a £25 parlay pays out £381.89 - which includes a bet365 bonus of 15%

UNITED TO NICK IT AT 8/5
Liverpool v Man Utd
Su Sep 18 - Noon, live on (SS1)
There’s some tasty Premiership action to get stuck into this weekend, and the big game between Liverpool and Man United is no exception (14 live in-play markets), We’ve got United down as marginal 8/5 favourites, but the best bet has to be on the total goals market, with under 2.5 the recommendation at 10/11. It’s surprising how many times the goals go under when two of the bigger teams play each other and, judging on Liverpool’s start to the season, they will set out to contain United. In their three league games so far, they’ve conceded only one goal, and their two 0-0 away draws mean that they have already achieved more clean sheets in away games than they did for the whole of last season. United did the double over Liverpool last season with a pair of one-goal wins, and a similar scoreline looks on the cards.
CHELSEA IN THE SECOND HALF AT 3/1
Charlton did us a favour last week by beating Birmingham (15/8), but they have it all to do to maintain their unbeaten run against Chelsea on Saturday (will they ever lose a game?). Chelsea are 4/7 to win but, as they don’t tend to kill-off opponents until the second half, it might be worth waiting till half-time (or In-Play) to back them, when they will likely be a bigger price. For the same reason, a bet on the Draw / Chelsea double result is also worth a punt at 3/1. There is also a strong reason to back them to win to nil at 6/4. Chelsea are yet to concede in the league, and have won their last three against Charlton 1-0, 4-0 and 1-0.
SUNDERLAND TO SEE THE LIGHTS AT 11/8
The rest of this weekend’s games look tricky to predict. Only Chelsea and Arsenal (2/5) are odds on to win, but Sunderland are fancied to get their first win of the season at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats did well to contain Chelsea for the best part of an hour last week, and look over-priced at 11/8 to beat a struggling West Brom side. With Arsenal looking home bankers against Everton, a £25 acca on all four selections this weekend pays out £356.61 for a £25 stake - that includes a bet365 bonus of 5% (up to 60% on offer every weekend in the Premiership).
Weekend Premiership Picks:
United to bt Liverpool @ 8/5; United to win 1-0 @ 13/2
Chelsea to bt Charlton @ Half Time or In-Play price; Draw / Chelsea @ 3/1; Chelsea to win to nil @ 6/4 Sunderland to bt West Brom @ 11/8 4-fold on United (8/5), Chelsea (4/7), Arsenal (2/5), Sunderland (11/8)

Battle of the Reds
Champions League title holders Liverpool face arch rivals Manchester United at Anfield this Sunday and VC Bet’s Nick Blezard believes it could be a very tight game.
“Liverpool will have been buoyed up after their tremendous win against Real Betis in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Rafael Benitez showed yet again that he is the boss by leaving Steven Gerrard out of the line-up and his side did not let their manager down. There seems to be a new belief at Anfield this season and I expect them to press United all the way”.
commented Blezard.
Liverpool are rated at 9-5 to beat Manchester United who are priced at 7-5 with the draw available at 11-5 with VC Bet.
United have a 100% record so far this season and Ruud Van Nistelrooy has scored in all four games. It could be close between the two teams and VC Bet offer the 0-0 score line at 17-2 and 1-1 at 11-2. A draw at half-time/full time is offered at 4-1 with VC Bet.

His multiple entries include Continent – winner in 2001 and an eye-catching third in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster last week – Ice Planet, Pieter Brueghel, Funfair Wane, successful in 2002 and 2004, Merlin’s Dancer and Native Title. Clive Cox’s Out After Dark who was an impressive scorer in the Portland lines up with a 5lb penalty which will be negated by rider Adam Kirby’s claim.
VC Bet’s odds compiler Richard Monahan commented “As usual David Nicholls holds the key to a major sprint prize but the going at Ayr and possible eliminations through balloting of high profile runners make this Saturday’s race harder than most to fathom”.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – GROUP STAGE
Chelsea are rated at 1/6 with VC Bet to overpower Anderlecht (11-1) at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday with the draw offered at 9/2 and Rangers (6/5) will be looking to get over the disappointment of dropping points in the SPL last Saturday with a win over Porto (7/4) at Ibrox on the same night.
Holders Liverpool have a tough task when travelling to Spain to take on Real Betis also on Tuesday evening and will do well to take something from that away tie. They are offered at 17/10 with VC Bet with Betis at 11/8 and the draw is priced at 2/1. Manchester United are also Iberian visitors and will be looking to get a result against Villarreal on Wednesday. VC Bet rate them a 11/8 chance with the home side at 13/8 and the draw at 21/10.
On the same night Arsenal play hosts at Highbury to the Swiss runners-up Thun and will be anxious to get over Saturday’s defeat against Middlesborough and the injury setback over Thierry Henry. They are 1/5 with VC Bet to start their European campaign on the right note. The Swiss minnows are available at 11-1 and the draw is rated a 4/1 chance.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “Both Chelsea and Arsenal look virtual penalty kicks in their ties although the opposition will no doubt throw ten men behind the ball. Rangers were unimpressive in their 1-1 draw with Falkirk at the week-end and will be looking to improve on that performance. You would imagine that both Liverpool and Manchester United would be happy to settle for a draw in their respective away ties”.

Next England Manager
There have been calls for his resignation and VC Bet have issued prices on the “Next Permanent England Manager” market.
Eriksson’s present assistant Steve McClaren is a firm favourite at 6-4 and there has already been interest in the 4-1 offered about Charlton’s Alan Curbishley. Martin O’Neill who is presently out of management due to his wife’s illness is third best with VC Bet at 5-1 with Bolton’s Sam Allardyce available at 10-1.
Neal Wilkins of VC Bet commented “The pathetic performance in Belfast on the back of a very moderate one against Wales has led the media and supporters both to believe it is time for the cold Swede to go. Many people feel that a new broom is required and if that is the case then Alan Curbishley could prove a worthy successor to Eriksson. He may have gone as far as he can with Charlton and would relish the opportunity to operate on the biggest stage of them all”.
